Kings provides safety and security to children in Edinburgh Longstone Primary School
They developed the designs alongside the main contractors and the electrical contractor and provided COEC with a blueprint to use for future projects of this kind. The intruder alarm systems with remote signalling and access control systems incorporate electro-mechanical locking systems, complying with current emergency escape legislation.
The design and installation of the access control system and especially the electro-mechanical locking system was a challenge to Kings. They had to provide both safety and security for the children during core school hours and at the same time meet emergency escape requirements - particularly with the public who are not familiar with the access control system and the operation of the escape equipment.
Kings Security achieved this using a Borer access control system, operating in conjunction with a combination of electro-mechanical Solenoid locks and panic hardware. One particular requirement of the overall system design was to install a simple to operate, fail safe method of overriding the access control and electronic side of the electro-mechanical escape equipment, during specific periods of time, without compromising the security of the building.
The school is now connected to the monitoring facility utilising DualCom dual path signalling, the first building within the COEC Estate to be connected using this method of signalling.
Brian Ross, Account Manager, says, "Once we had won this contract we knew that the opportunity was there to influence and develop the designs of the security and safety systems required. We used our specialist knowledge to improve the designs and made sure that the new primary school was supplied with the best solution."
